The short version: MacroCart has no accounts and no server that stores your information. Everything you scan, save, plan, and set lives on your phone. We don’t track you, we don’t run ads, and we don’t sell or share your data. The only time information leaves your device is when you look up a product — your phone asks a public food database for that product’s details — and when Apple processes your payment.

1. Who we are

MacroCart (“we,” “us,” “the app”) is a grocery-scanning and nutrition app for iPhone. This policy explains what happens to information when you use the app. Questions? Email support@getmacrocart.app.

2. The big picture: your data stays on your device

MacroCart is built to be private. There is no account, no login, and no sign-up. We do not operate a server that receives or stores your personal data. The things you create in the app — your goals, allergens and diet, scanned products, verdicts, cart, pantry, and history — are saved only in local storage on your phone. Because we never receive this information, we cannot see it, access it, share it, or sell it.

3. Information we do not collect

4. When information leaves your device

There are only a few moments when data travels off your phone, and none of them identify you to us:

Product look-ups (Open Food Facts)

When you scan a barcode or search for a product, your phone sends that barcode or search term to Open Food Facts, a free public food database, to fetch the product’s name, ingredients, and nutrition. This request contains the product identifier you’re looking up — not your identity, your goals, or your other data. Open Food Facts has its own terms and privacy practices.

Payments (Apple)

Subscriptions and one-time purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or receive your payment-card details. Apple’s handling of your purchase is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. Your access to paid features is verified on your device using Apple’s receipt — not by us.

5. Your phone’s camera and photos

MacroCart uses the camera to scan barcodes and read nutrition labels, and (only if you choose) to pick or save a product photo. Images are processed on your device to read text and barcodes; we never record or upload video, and we do not send your photos to us or to any third party. You can grant or revoke camera and photo access anytime in your iPhone Settings.

6. Artificial intelligence

Some tips and insights are generated using on-device Apple Intelligence, which runs locally on your iPhone. We do not send your data to a cloud AI service to produce these insights.

7. Notifications

MacroCart can send reminders — for example, when a pantry item is about to expire. These are local notifications scheduled on your device. They are not sent from a server and require your permission, which you can change anytime in Settings.

8. Children

MacroCart is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children — and, as described above, we don’t collect personal information from anyone.

9. How to delete your data

To cancel a subscription, manage it in your iPhone Settings under your Apple account (deleting the app does not cancel a subscription).

10. Security

Your information is kept in your device’s app storage and protected by your iPhone’s built-in security and your passcode / Face ID. Since we don’t hold your data on a server, there is no central database of users to breach.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles information — for example, if we ever add an optional cloud-sync or crash-reporting feature — we will update this page and the “last updated” date, and the change will be clearly disclosed here before it takes effect. Any future analytics or crash reporting we add would be designed to be anonymous and described here.
